Message Subject: "Hi"

December 19, 2018

The IT Security Office has received several reports of email fraud attempts where attackers are impersonating Duke staff. This particular message is constructed to appear as though it was sent by Scott Huettel while actually being sent from a fraudulent email address, scotthuettel221[@]gmail.com. The intent of this campaign is to coerce the recipients into performing a wire transfer or purchasing gift cards and providing the codes to the scammer.

If you received the email below or one that is similar, please delete the message and do not reply. If you have replied and/or purchased any gift cards for them we ask that you contact us as soon as possible via email security@duke.edu.

For more information about this type of fraud see E-mail Impersonation Fraud.
